🍌 Australia Approves Commercialization of Genetically Engineered BananaFood Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) recently approved a Queensland University of Technology (QUT) application to permit food derived from a banana line genetically engineered (GE) for resistance to Panama disease. The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) in Australia issued a license permitting the commercial growth of a genetically engineered (GE) banana (QCAV-4). Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) concluded the GE banana is just as safe and nutritious as a conventional banana. This ruling is the first GE fruit assessed and approved by FSANZ.↪️ Read more at https://vist.ly/z9dq#GE #Australia #Banana

The production and consumption of genetically modified organisms have increased without a proper assessment of how they can affect our communities. This protocol could help decision-makers regulate and evaluate the risks associated with GMOs. Share it within your network!➡️ https://ow.ly/NNLq50P1eihIFOAM Organics Europe

Exciting news from AgResearch, one of seven Crown Research Institutes in New Zealand 🌿🔬. They're taking their genetically modified and gene-edited grasses research to new heights.Up until now, AgResearch has had a major focus on high metabolisable energy (HME) ryegrass for pasture. This genetically modified (GM) grass is super cool because it has been specially designed to have more lipids in its leaves. How? By increasing the expression of two genes involved in lipid production and photosynthesis. Scientists hope that the HME ryegrass will deliver nutritional benefits for cattle while also reducing methane emissions and nitrogen excretion too.Read more: https://bit.ly/44K3ACE#GroundCoverOnline #CropGenetics #Ryegrass

In the 1960s, the once dominant Gros Michel banana vanished from shelves across the world. Its devastating disappearance was caused by a soil-borne fungal species. Without a known pesticide or method of control, the soil-borne fungus that causes Fusarium wilt, also known as Panama disease, can spread rapidly and remain in the soil for over 50 years. But now an Australian genetically modified (GM) Cavendish banana resistant to the disease, could save the variety that today represents 97% of Australia’s banana production. The average weight of a chicken over time:BCE - 900 grams1960 - 900 grams1980 - 2,000 grams2023 - 4,500 gramsWhy? Chickens have been genetically manipulated to produce the most meat for the least cost. To avoid this, source your meat locally and from free-range farms.
